What to Expect When You Install Custom Lighting Controls

Installing custom lighting is one of the easiest ways to turn your home into the oasis you’ve always wanted. Not only do the custom lights and the controls look good aesthetically, using them makes your life easier. You’re also reducing your environmental impact and saving yourself some cash on high energy bills at the same time by using them.

How Your Lighting Will Change

Instead of switches or circular dimmer knobs in every room, you will get sleek control pads with very few buttons on them, (sometimes as few as five or less). Manufacturers design your custom lighting controls to blend in seamlessly with your decor, or to feature the high-end material design schemes that are now in demand, like chrome or brushed nickel. To properly light the larger rooms in your home, technicians will install four to five sets of lights. For smaller rooms, usually two to three sets are enough.

Once your system is installed, most homeowners establish presets; and you can always change your settings when you want. However, many people find that they enjoy the same level of dimness and brightness most of the time. For example, your family might want lower lights for movie watching or eating dinner, and brighter light for cleaning the house or enjoying a lively, opinionated debate with guests. In addition, you can program your lights to turn on one set of lights or several sets all at once; or have them to come on in sequence, stopping at your chosen level of brightness.

Simplicity

Once you program your keypad, it is set; (until you decide to change it). There’s also a master control. If you are going out of town for a long business or personal trip, you can set your lights to cut off 60 minutes after you leave, so that you don’t forget when you have so many other things to take care of. You can even control some custom lighting installations with your smartphone.

Until you change the settings, the lights manage themselves and continue to come on, dim and cut off just as you like. You can also set your outdoor lights to sense whether the sunlight is strong, is fading or is gone for the day. So instead of just cutting on when it gets dark; your lights can fade on at night and fade off in the morning.
